In 2002, Creative Capital funded Pamela Z's Voci, which incorporates live singing, real-time digital processing, vocal samples, and projected video. In this presentation of the human voice as anatomy, character, identifier and communicator, Z weaves stories about the voice together with arias, non-verbal utterances, cries and whispers, and choruses of real and synthetically created voices, using her gesture-triggered Body Synth to trigger the sampled sounds.

Each grant round, Creative Capital assembles dedicated, diverse, and passionate teams of professional experts to help us determine which artist projects to support. The selection process includes recommenders, readers, evaluators, and panelists.

Recommenders suggest artists and artist organizations in their geographic region that should be notified of the upcoming grant round.

Readers review and score letters of inquiry to help determine which artists will be invited to submit a full application, including work samples.

Evaluators review, score, and rank applications, including work samples, to help determine which artists will be advanced to the panel round.

Panelists review applications, view work samples, and vote to determine a docket of projects to recommend to the Creative Capital Board for funding support.
